Beausite Zermatt: A Grand Alpine Revival With A Matterhorn View
Set high above the car-free village of Zermatt, BEAUSiTE Zermatt occupies one of the most privileged panoramic positions in the Alps, with an uninterrupted view of the Matterhorn dominating the horizon. At 1,620 metres above sea level, the hotel feels inseparable from the landscape that made Zermatt a global symbol of alpinism.
First opened in 1907 at the height of the Belle Époque, the hotel was built during the golden age of mountaineering, when railway access transformed Zermatt into an international destination. Following a complete renovation between 2019 and 2022, BEAUSiTE Zermatt reopened in June 2022, restoring its historic character while reinterpreting the grand hotel tradition with confidence and warmth.
The interiors reflect this dialogue between past and present. Designed by Atelier Zürich, the rooms and public spaces draw inspiration from the surrounding alpine world, using warm honey, beige and fir-green tones, detailed fabrics and subtle British influences. Climbing ropes appear as a recurring design motif, linking the hotel’s aesthetic to the history of the English pioneers who once shaped Zermatt’s mountaineering legacy. From many rooms, guests enjoy sweeping views of the Matterhorn - the iconic landmark of Zermatt.
Gastronomy is rooted firmly in regional authenticity. Chef Erwin Peters focuses on seasonal produce and local sourcing, with the hotel maintaining its own livestock and working closely with nearby farms. Guests can dine at the wood-fired Grill, the light-filled 3 Seasons restaurant, the Wine Box with its European-focused cellar, or the Witch’eese fondue hut on the panoramic terrace, where the Matterhorn remains in constant view.
