AND THE OLYMPIC GOLD FOR SPORT, SUSTAINABILITY AND THE ARTS GOES TO…

THE OLYMPIC GAMES are a celebration of unity, perseverance, and diplomacy. No one represents these values more fully for the Principality than H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco, whose participation in five consecutive Winter Olympics, from 1988 to 2002, exemplifies the country’s commitment to sport and global cooperation.

For us Monegasques, it is a source of great pride that our Prince trained and competed in bobsleigh alongside his teammates, representing Monaco with dignity and dedication. His appearances at Calgary, Albertville, Lillehammer, Nagano, and Salt Lake City displayed an indomitable spirit.

Yet his contributions go well beyond the bobsled track. As a member of the International Olympic Committee since 1985, Prince Albert has played a key role in promoting sustainability within the Olympic movement, advocating for environmental initiatives that align with Monaco’s own commitment to marine conservation and climate action. His leadership helped shape the IOC’s “Olympic Agenda 2020,” which prioritizes sustainability in every aspect of the Games.

This year, the connection between Monaco and the Olympics was further strengthened by the recent Arts Olympic Games, which concluded just a few months ago. The event highlighted the enduring relationship between sport and the arts, fields that have historically intersected to inspire and elevate humanity. For Prince Albert, who champions both athletic and cultural excellence, this is yet another reflection of Monaco’s unique role in fostering global cooperation and creativity.

In today’s world of climate challenges and political tensions, Prince Albert’s Olympic journey stands as a beacon of hope. He reminds us that sport—and the arts—can transcend borders, uniting us all in the pursuit of a better world. His legacy, as an Olympian and global leader, inspires us as Monegasques, reinforcing the values we hold so dear: unity, sustainability, and peace.
